 Introduction

The key to Extended Articles is the ability to, within one module, have such versatility in creating different article modules in different layouts. Extended Articles is not limited by one position and/or one layout. You can create several modules to select different content to display in different layouts in different areas of your website. Using one product to create several article modules throughout your website.

Parameters  - Settings

Below is a screen shot of the left Module settings. Here you will assign the standard items of position and menu assignment. In this screen shot, the module is set to view in a top mass content position on the homepage only.

Data Parameters

Order By:
Determine what is the ordering criteria. Select the ordering system by which the articles will display such as newest to oldest. Choosing created date will give the Latest News or Articles. Choosing Hits count will display the Most Popular. Comments Count (CompoJoomComments) will give the Most Commented (if user is using compoJoomComment component).
Order Direction:
Ascending or Descending Order
Period of Novelty:
Include only articles created  in the past XX days. Set to (0) for all time. Choose a level of priority to the display of an article such as 30 days. If you do not wish to set a period enter (0).
Select from author:
Choose articles to display by a specific author or set of authors.
Select from section:
Select articles to display from a specific section or set of sections.
Select from category:
Select articles to display from a specific category or set of categories.
Select Article:
Comma separated list of article IDs  to be selected. Select one or multiple specifically named articles to display.

Layout Parameters

Select a layout: Select a layout to display in the front end.

Selecting a layout (in this instance, slideshow is chosen). Your options are to set it to display as :
Default, hrotator, hslider, slideshow, vrotator, or vslider
Click on any of the layout options to view a screen print example.
Count:
The number of items to display.
Intro Count:
Amount of Intro text to display. Should be less than or equal to ‘Count’. If you don’t want to display introductions, set this to zero (0).
Title max chars:
Maximum characters  to display for title
Introduction max chars:
Maximum characters  to display for Introduction
Show ‘read more’:
If enabled, read more link will appear for articles with introduction. Show the ‘read more’ option (Yes or No)
Show date:
If enabled the date will be displayed in the format selected below. Display date (Yes or No)

Format to display date in

Images Parameters

Show thumbnails:
If enabled, thumbnails will be displayed. Yes or No to display thumbnails
Thumbnail width:
Width of thumbnail image in pixels
Thumbnail height:
Height of thumbnail image in pixels
Image width:
Width of image in pixels. This is used in some layouts instead of thumbnails.
Image height:
Height of image in pixels. This is used in some layouts instead of thumbnails.
Preserve aspect:
Preserve image aspect ratio. No, Yes (but ignore height), Yes (but ignore width)
Enlarge images :
If enabled, images will be enlarged to fit the sizes set above. (Yes or No)

‘More from’ Parameters

Show ‘more from’:
If enabled, links to selected sections or categories to be listed. Do you wish to give option to see more articles from a specific section, category or author? (Yes or No)
‘More from’ layout:
Choose List or Blog format. Select "List" to display a list of additional articles in the specified Category or Sections. Select "Blog" to display additional articles in a Blog Format to the specified Category or Section
‘More from’ filter:
Perl regular expression to filter titles for the ‘more from’. If you want to filter the specified items beyond the regular ‘more from’ choice.

JavaScript Parameters

Add jQuery library:
Add the jQuery library to this page? If another plug-in is already adding it, you will want to set this to no.
jQuery ‘no conflict mode’:
 Set the jQuery JavaScript to use ‘no conflict mode’. Use this if you have other javascript libraries on your site.

Rotator Parameters

Animation Speed:
Speed of the animation in milliseconds.
Autostart Rotator:
If set to ‘Yes’ the rotator will start when the page is loaded.
Rotator Speed:
Speed of the rotator in milliseconds.
Show Controls:
If set to ‘Yes’ rotator controls will show.

Slideshow Parameters

Frame width:
Width of slideshow frame in pixels.
Frame height:
Height of slideshow frame in pixels.
Main width:
Width of the main story in pixels.
Main height:
Height of the main story in pixels.
Navigation item width:
Width of the navigation item in pixels.
Navigation item height:
Height of the navigation item in pixels.

Advanced Parameters

File and Folder Permissions:
Enter the permission mask that is used to create files and folders. Do not change unless you know what you are doing!

Module Class Suffix:
A suffix to be applied to the CSS class of the Module. This allows for individual module styling.

Caching:

Select whether to cache the content of this module. Options: Global, No Caching.
Cache Time:
The period of time in minutes before the module is re-cached.
